About me

imageMy mother calls me Balu and my friends call me Bala. It is hard to describe ‘home’ since I have lived in three different continents and also have travelled to more than 45 countries. Chronologically speaking I was born and raised in Chennai, India followed by two years in Mumbai, India for my masters degree, 6 years in Cape Town, South Africa for my doctorate degree and postdoctoral position and the last 7 years in the United Kingdom where I worked and also earned British citizenship recently. My work experience ranges from scientific research to high school teaching. The details of my experience and my achievements can be seen on my LinkedIn profile (http://uk.linkedin.com/in/balabangaru/).

To make my adventerous life more interesting I am currently on a bicycle tour from Alaska to Argentina. My passion for travel and adventure specifically, cycling and mountaineering takes me to many places and this website is a portal for sharing some of my experiences and thoughts. I am interested in several topics: science, economy, philosophy, politics, environment, travel, cooking and adventure are a few.

I believe my background, my life experience and my adventures in general will be of interest to some and hopefully motivate several people around me.

Well done Dr Bala. I am so proud of your achievement as you are unique in many ways. You make me feel I need to get out of my routine and do something adventurous like you.. But for now I am going to stick to being the mother and the teacher, I am so exhausted by the end of the day anyway!! May be if I join you my life will be less tiring! ! …you are the star..keep going..God bless. NAHED

Hi Bala! Tomorrow you will stay in my university, and I’m too exciting to hear all your adventures in this way that you choose. I’m a engineer’s student and your motivation and vision about the life is too necessary when the routine and the life goes hard. We will waiting for you in San Juan!
